Step 1. Remove the center console first (see the C5 e-brake boot guide), plus the shift boot, knob and radio bezel.

Step 2. Remove the interior air temp sensor. Pry out the fog lamp/hatch release panel and unplug it.

Step 3. Remove the T15 Torx screw behind the hatch release and the two under the knee bolster.

Step 4. Pull each side of the knee bolster down and rearward to release its locking tabs, and take it to a bench.

Step 5. Note how the top trim piece is heat-welded to the panel, then carefully pry the two apart without breaking the steering column collar.

Step 6. Remove the staples and peel the vinyl off (a hair dryer helps). Clean off the old glue and smooth the surface.

Step 7. Center the leather over the panel, fold back one half, brush on a 2-3" strip of adhesive, and smooth it down. Repeat on the other half, then work outward to the ends. Let it dry.

Step 8. Cut small V's in the edges, glue them to the underside, then epoxy the trim piece back on, clamp overnight (pad the clamps), and reinstall.

Step 9. Glovebox: disconnect the negative battery terminal (so the airbag can't deploy), empty the glovebox, and unplug the airbag switch and glovebox light.

Step 10. Remove the two rubber stops inside the door and squeeze the door sides inward so it opens wider.

Step 11. Remove the two covers on the door, the two 10mm nuts behind it, and the three 7mm screws, then slide the glovebox out.

Step 12. On the bench, remove the lock, tap out the hinge pins (they go out toward the outside), and carefully pry the heat-welded lid halves apart.

Step 13. Remove the staples and vinyl, smooth the lid and its mating surface, then wrap it in leather the same way as the knee bolster and epoxy it back together.
Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
