shift boot step 1

Step 1. Begin by pulling off the two black rubber knobs for the heater/AC and defroster slide switches. Also pull of the plastic AC knob. Use needle nose pliers to carefully unscrew the flat nut holding the AC switch to the consoler faceplate.

shift boot step 2

Step 2. Remove the shift knob (usually 1-3 set screws). Carefully pry off the plastic console faceplate cover. It is not necessary to unplug the wiring for the fan switch and clock.

shift boot step 3

Step 3. The shift boot is held in place by a metal retaining ring. Push the edges of the retaining ring so that the entire boot and ring fall through the console opening.

shift boot step 4

Step 4. Now pull the boot and ring out through the opening of the console faceplate cover and remove from the vehicle.

shift boot step 5

Step 5. Use existing hardware to attach the new boot to the retaining ring making sure that the 4 retaining tabs are oriented as in correctly (tabs should be on the bottom of the retaining ring when installing the boot). Push the entire boot and ring through the opening of the console faceplate cover and through the console opening. With your fingers grasping the edge of the retaining ring, pull the ring toward you. Repeat for all 4 sides until the ring has securely snapped into place.

shift boot step 6

Step 6. Lift the e-brake as high as it will go and unscrew the Phillips screw located directly under the e-brake handle using a stubby screwdriver. Lift the rear of the console slightly while pushing down on the e-brake boot, which is held in place by a metal retaining ring. If you are unable to gain adequate clearance to slide the boot out, you may need to loosen 2 bolts at the front of the console (visible if you remove the ashtray).

shift boot step 7

Step 7. Attach the new boot to the retaining ring using existing hardware. Slide the new boot and ring under the console and snap into place by pushing upwards from below.

Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
