What This Is
A custom-sewn leather shift boot for your 1982-92 Pontiac Firebird. It's the leather only: it installs on your factory frame or trim ring. It is not a complete shift boot assembly.

Installation

You'll remove the shift knob and trim, move the new boot onto your factory frame, and reinstall.

Step 1. Begin with removing you shift knob by rotating it counterclockwise.
Step 2. Remove the center console. There are two screws towards the back of it. Once you remove those, start lifting it and remove any other screws that you come across in the process.
Step 3. The boot is mounted to the console with a bracket. Remove the bracket (4 Phillips screws). Remove the boot.
Step 4. Align the new shift boot with the bracket and install the new boot (you might want to glue it to the bracket, but it's not necessary) to the bracket and the bracket back into the center console.
Step 5. Reinstall the top piece of the center console. Make sure to reattach the traction control wires, the wires to the ash tray light, and the center console pocket light.
Step 6. Reinstall and shift knob.
Leather care: apply a leather conditioner with UV protection every 4-6 weeks to keep it from drying out and cracking.
